I couldn't sleep last night. I'm blaming it on my lack of tv watching before bed. I dreamed of shopping malls and I'm pretty sure someone died. Oh well. I woke up at 7:30 and got a cup of coffee and started my morning routine. I knew it would be cold today so I made sure to wear a hat and an extra shirt under my sweater. I made myself a huge plate of thanksgiving food and checked the internet before heading off to school. It is freezing outside. I almost ran to school and went straight upstairs. Hanna was in front of me and she told me that the door was locked. I went into the Accent center and printed off my histories paper before going upstairs.
I was reading my book before class started when I heard Julian say that there is a snowflake next to the weather report tomorrow. A goddamn snowflake. God help us. I then had to be informed by our professor that it was one degree celsius today. Stupid celsius. At least 38 degrees sounds warming than one freaking degree. I'm starting to think that the classrooms upstairs don't have heat. I was freezing.
My French class is behind so we're still working on chapter 13 instead of moving on to chapter 14. We spent the day talking about illnesses and the symptoms of having a cold, breaking a bone, being depressed, or being pregnant. We were supposed to do an exercise with a partner but I didn't have one. My professor volunteered to be my partner and we had a very nice discussion. She said that my ability to form sentences is improving. She also mentioned that Kelly has dropped out of our class. She hasn't come in weeks so I'm not surprised. Since we're behind, and we spent a lot of time doing our morning question rounds, we were only given a ten minute break. My stomach was rumbling and it was only ten o'clock. I ran to the boulangerie near school, which I've never been to before, and grabbed a baguette. The baguette was freezing due to the cold, but it only cost my 90 cents. On the way back to school I ran into Francisco and told him that I saw his roommate locked out on Sunday. He told me that he had been locked out since Friday and had left food on the stove inside. 15 euros would have definitely been worth it. These kids.....
I knew that I would be late to class so I walked as quickly as I could back to class. I was five minutes late and was not surprised to only see one student in the classroom. A few minutes later some more students came in and were upset to see that our professor wasn't there. They had tried to wait so that she would beat them to class. It's never going to happen. We spent the rest of the class talking about going to the doctor and then started talking about what makes us happy. At the end of class, our professor handed back our compositions and quizzes. My composition had a bunch of marks on it, and she had commented on my use of record player instead of MP3. After class I told her that I think that I used the right word. She was surprised that I wanted to say record player and asked if it was hard to find the diamonds for it. I told her no. Just order them on the internet.
Before handing back my French quiz, my professor said "oh là là Michaela (which is always pronounced mE-k-la in French... or Mee-KA-A-la if you're my histories professor. Why does she say my name in Spanish?) before handing back my quiz. 100%. I checked to see my mistakes, and I guess she had given us two bonus points. During her review of the quiz, she said that one section was a complete disaster but that she was going to explain that section again. I'm so much nerdier than the other kids. After class I went downstairs for a minute and did some great eavesdropping. I heard Eli say that he had been robbed in Barcelona. I then heard another kid say that everyone had been robbed and that it was weird if you hadn't been robbed yet. It turns out that Eli had passed out drunk on a park bench in Barcelona and woken up to find his wallet missing. I'm so glad that I'm not like the other kids. What really surprised me is that he was surprised at all. The world isn't filled of that many people who would resist that much temptation. Even I, the most saintly of women, had thought about snatching a tourist's phone in Venice. Come on. It would have been easy.
After my snooping, I read my book before histories started. Nothing really interesting to report besides my professor saying my name wrong. I'm pretty sure that the other kids are confused as to whom she is talking about. Class seemed to go rather quickly today, but my hands were too cold to write very well. Tomorrow for class we really have to bundle up. We're meeting in front of the Pompidou center (I'm going back to that place again?!) to look for traces of the old Les Halles. My professor said that it's one of the more dangerous parts of town. She said that whenever she has a student whose iphone has been grabbed out of their hands or comes to class with a black eye that they've been in the Châtelet area. She also said that the area is filled with drug dealers and prostitutes. Pray for me. I'll be keeping an eye on my bag tomorrow.
After class we got our synecdoche papers back. I got a 92. I'm going to rewrite it this weekend. Christina found two holes in my argument that she thinks that I should fix and then (in her words) my paper will be "bullet proof." I like the sound of that. I gave her my monument analysis and ran out the door without even buttoning my coat. Do you know how hard it is to button a coat with an armful of books? I do. I ran into Monoprix to pick up some groceries before heading home. I got a medium sized jar of nutella (which has been sitting next to my bed ever since I got home. I must have eaten a cup by now), a bag of pain au chocolat, a bottle of milk, and a package of cat's tongue cookies. What? I'm a college student. I broke a 50 and then went home.
I put away my groceries, read over my returned paper, and finished my baguette before getting started with the rest of my day. I fixed my French composition using this internet site that I just found today. You can type in any sentence and it'll fix the grammatical errors for you. C'est genial! I then did the adverb section of the photocopy sheet before working on my pop presentation. Run one: eleven minutes, thirty seconds. Then it only went up for the next two runs. Oh boy. Next up was a cup of tea with honey, cranberry juice, and a berry tea bag and an hour's worth of studying for my French final. It didn't go so well, but it was only my first day of review. Plenty of time to improve. Not that I need to. I could fail and still get an A in the class. Hopefully I won't fail, though.....
After studying I took a much needed break. Tomorrow and Thursday are going to be hell so I need to soak up all the relaxation I can get. I finished the movie "Hello Christmas" that mom recommended to me last night. It was terrible, but not terrible enough for me to stop watching. I need to stop taking mom's movie recommendations. After the movie, I moved on to editing my pop paper for the 10 millionth time. I'm so over it, but it's sounding okayish. I just want it to be over.
I finished my paper at 6:12 and then spent the rest of the evening watching movies. I found this French film on netflix called "young and beautiful" (jeune et joli) that I actually was going to see at the theater in Santa Barbara over six months ago. It wasn't on netflix before, but I was excited to see it now. Don't watch it. It's a French film about a 17 year old girl who turns to prostitution so of course there's a lot of graphic sex scenes. Just don't, okay?
While I was taking a movie break to shower, I saw on Facebook that a girl that I was best friends with my first year of college just got engaged. God. Everyone is finding mister right and what am I doing with my life? Watching netflix and eating nutella. I really need to fix my life.....

I was supposed to talk to mom at eight, but when it was 8:45 and she hadn't called I figured that she forgot. It turns out that someone had hacked her checking account and taken all the money out. She has been on the phone with the bank all morning. On top of that, three of her checks got lost in the mail. She asked for my AAA credit card information so she can pay that over the phone. She seems to be taking it fine. I would be a lot more upset if I was her, but she always deals with everything better than I do. She said everything should be fixed my Monday at the latest. The poor thing. I really feel bad for her, and feel even worse that she kept having to tell me to not look worried. I always worry. In better news, my property manager called her today and said that the other tenant backed out. The downstairs apartment is mine. Chapeau!
I'm debating if I should finish my sex film now or just go to bed.....
