lollipops

This is going to be a pretty boring post. Just leave now.

I wasn't feeling very well today, and to top it off, the sky was gray all day. I got up and forgot to make my coffee until I was halfway done with my makeup. I just didn't feel good enough to live today so I threw on a sweater and leggings. I went to class with a coat and scarf to use as a blanket during French. French seemed to drag on forever today. I was totally out of it, and only managed to half understand what was going on during class. After class I was not looking forward to going back for pop.

I came home and fixed my returned French composition. Then I turned my attention to my histories monument analysis. I just couldn't manage to focus enough to write anything worth reading. It ended up being a rambling paragraph with a series of partially unconnected ideas. Good thing I have a two weeks before I have to turn it in. I was so done with trying to do work so I made myself some onion soup and turned my attention to where to go on Saturday for Nuit Blanche. I finished my lunch with some potato chips and ran out the door for class.

Today, pop music focused on yé-yé. Anything feminist is automatically my favorite topic and I was excited for today's lecture. We started with Slyvie Vartan's "panne d'essence". It's a song about a girl and a guy running out of gas and the guy tries to convince the girl to do some naughty things in the car. Analyzing her pout alone was worth hearing her childish, high-pitched voice. Next was Françoise Hardy's "tous les garçons et les filles" where I got to watch some girls' skirts blowing up on an amusement park ride. Next up was Slyvie Vartan's "Je voudrais être un garçon comme toi". I actually managed to say something during the discussion of the song!

After our little chat yesterday, I knew Mindy was on to me and my lack of talking. I knew that today was the day, but with only a few minutes left in class, I was hoping to scrape by without speaking. After she finished playing the song, She walked over to where I was sitting and whispered my name. In a weak voice to managed to say that I thought her voice sounded more grownup than before. She said it was an excellent point. Yay for me! Later on in the discussion, Mindy said that she wanted to go back to the comment I had made. I'm the coolest.

After my triumph came the coup de grâce. The song "les sucettes" by France Gall. The song was written by Serge Gainsbourg and is basically about oral sex but under the thin veil of a young girl enjoying lollipops. We just had to watch the music video to see how terribly pornographic the song is. I'm a good Christian girl! I shouldn't have been watching this video!! I'm too embarrassed to even describe it to you. Horrifying.

I came home to spend my afternoon studying for French, reading Horne for histories, and editing my much improved (but now slightly lifeless) pop paper. I'm not exhausted, but I feel like I've been awake for five years. I guess this is what happens when you wake up at the crack of dawn.
