it would be really fun to party here

I've had a super busy day, and surprisingly most of it wasn't school related. Who knew that was possible?!

I went to school early to print my composition before class, and in the hopes to sign up for excursions before everyone else; I didn't want my excursions to fill up before I had a chance to sign up. I printed my composition and waited for the other kids in my class to get there. At 9am we all went into our classroom, but our professor wasn't there. She didn't arrive until after 9:10. While I waited for class to start, I signed up for my excursions with Kate. I will be going to Giverny to see Monet's house and garden (!!!!!) and to Fontainbleau. I told Kate that I wanted to talk to her about the noise again, but I didn't end up going back to talk (more on that later). Nothing happened in class, so we'll skip over to when we took our break.

I was fixing my composition and emailing mom because she had emailed me last night and asked to skype before I went to class, but she had emailed me after I had already gone to bed and I didn't have time to talk this morning. A friend came up to me and said that I had a lot of mail. I was so excited that I ran right over to the mail area. Mom sent me a card! It says "hang on tight. happiness is right around the corner". I also received the sandals as promised…with some toothbrushes because I supposed you can never have too many.

Skip over the rest of class. After class we had an hour before our excursion to the opera, so I went to the boulangerie to get my bread. I was walking with some classmates who informed me that my normal boulangerie is closed on Wednesdays! We went to the boulangerie that is closer to school. Their bread was delicious!! I might have to switch boulangeries. The only problem is that their baguette is smaller, but isn't as crummy as the boulangerie closer to my apartment.

I came home and worked on my third composition while I ate my baguette. Before I knew it, it was time to go back to school. French classes 12 and 13 went to the Opera today, and we had a guided tour. The tour guide came to get us from Accent and we all went over together. The Opera is amazing, and if you're ever in Paris it should definitely be on the list (ahead of the boring Eiffel Tour). There's nothing really to say about the opera except 1. gold. 2. cool 3. ohmygoodness wow 4. you should go. There is, however, one thing that really bothered me.

One of the girls in my class, Hannah, (also one of the girls who is responsible for the noise that is happening now as per usual on my floor) stated that "it would be cool to party here." We had the privilege of having a guided tour of a national monument (let alone international treasure), an opportunity that people dream about, and all she can think about is partying and drinking. I'm so disgusted.

After our tour a few girls in my class wanted to go shopping, and they invited me along. They said that there was a seven floor mall nearby that had an amazing view of Paris. Part of me knew that I should go study, considering that I have a final on Friday that I'm not at all prepared for, but I decided to go for a little while. They got coffee and we wandered down some streets until we found what we thought was the right seven floor mall. It wasn't. However, this mall was filled with every expensive name brand you can imagine. We looked around on every floor, and finally made our way to the top floor. This mall had a great view of the Eiffel Tower…from one tiny window in the back of a hair salon. We googled the right mall and then headed that way.

We went into a shop to look around and then walked to the right seven story mall. Same story. Lots of fancy brands that we just had to look at. We stopped for my friend to get frozen yogurt, and then made it to the very top of the mall. It was so worth it. You can see all of Paris. Suck it Eiffel Tower (which you can see from the top of the mall). It's so beautiful, and it's another thing that you must see if you're ever in Paris.

The view from the top of the mall

We left one friend at the mall, and the other girl and I heade home. It sounded so easy. Just walk back to the Opera and hop on the metro…except we got lost. We finally found the metro, but it was the 12 instead of the 8 that we came on. Like true Parisians, we figured out that the 8 would stop at Concorde at which we could change to the one and go home. I even manged to grumble once we got to the one because we were all the way at the Tuileries and it would take forever (a whole 10 minutes!) to get to Gare de Lyon. Look at us rollin!

I got home at 6:30 and still had to finish my composition and do tonight's homework. Right as I was sitting down to get to work, I saw an email from mom asking to skype at 8pm. I left my computer on while I studied and awaited her call. At a few minutes to 8 mommy skyped me!! I got to talk to my mommy!!! I can't stop smiling, and we talked over an hour ago.

I then finished my work and took a shower. Now I'm writing to you with just a few minutes to spare before I go to bed. Tomorrow is dedicated to studying so that I can not completely fail my final on Friday.

Bonne nuit!
